In November 2025, FisPro DRC provided free surgical treatment to 43 women who had survived obstetric fistula (19 in Butembo and 24 in Kinshasa). In Butembo, a 30-bed ward dedicated to obstetric fistulas, donated by the Fistula Foundation, is under construction, and we are planning the inauguration ceremony on 12th March 2026
This month, we also attended the annual review meeting of the Fistula Foundation Treatment Network (FFTN) DRC for the 2025, from 17th to 18th November 2026 held in Kinshasa at Buena Vista Hotel.
We hosted an exchange surgical workshop at Bolamu medical Center from 19th to 23rd November 2026. Noted that 20 fistula surgeons from 11 orgarnizations, partrners of Fistula Foundation DRC attended activilly the event.
As part of our community awareness and mobilization efforts, briefings were organized in churches, women's groups, and health facilities during ante, post natal clinics (ANC), and preschool clinics. Media outlets such as RTNC, Top Congo, Lingala Facile, Amen TV, RTVH, Voici l’homme, and ACK were used to raise awareness within the Congolese community about the symptoms of obstetric fistulas and our treatment centers.
A briefing session on how to identify cases of obstetric fistulas in the community was held on 15th November 2025, for 164 community health workers and registered nurses from Mont Ngafula 2 health zone in Kinshasa. In partnership with the club of Gynecology, Obstetrics and other initiatives, a briefing was also organized on 22nd November for 120 healthcare professionals in Kinshasa, especifically gynecologists and obstetricians and other health providers on the management of obstetric fistulas.
In Beni territory, our teams visited camps for internally displaced persons to raise awareness about the causes and symptoms of obstetric fistulas. |
