The FisPro DRC Kinshasa team, accompanied by Dr. ELSA MOLLER GRACIA, with some obstetric fistula patients treated at the Bolamu Medical Center (December 2025).

In December 2025, FisPro DRC provided free treatment to 35  survivors of  obstetric fistula (23 in Butembo and 12 in Kinshasa).

In Butembo, the construction of the 30-bed ward dedicated to obstetric fistula, donated by the Fistula Foundation, is progressing very well. The  inauguration  ceremony will be on 12th  March 2026.

This month, our doctors from Kinshasa attended  the 19th National Congress of the Congolese Association of Urology from 12th  to 13th  december, 2025.

Noted they also joined the 10th National Congress of the Congolese Society of Gynecology and Obstetrics (SCOGO) from  16th to 18th December 2025. On this occasion, the director of FisPro DRC, Dr. Wasingya Kasereka Lucien, presented our activities and informed the public about our various obstetric fistula treatment sites.

As part of community awareness and mobilization efforts, briefings were organized in churches, women's groups, and health facilities during antenatal, postnatal and preschool clinics. Community medias were used to teach the Congolese community about the symptoms of obstetric fistulas and our treatment sites.

After her recovery, patient KIPEMBE NKUNGA Joelle, treated in Kinshasa, testified as follows:

“I am 23 years old and I have just spent four months with this fistula condition. My labor was complicated by cervical dystocia, which required to be referred to a big hospital for a cesarean section. The baby was a stillborn. Since than I had been experiencing urine leakage.

I had to wear sanitary pads constantly. I became extremely stressed because of this condition.

Thanks to a former patient treated by FISPRO, who told me about the support  from FISPRO. I have regained my dignity. I took public transportation to BOLAMU Hospital; I was warmly welcomed and well cared for, and now I am cured.

I am so happy and ready to return to the community without any fear; I will resume my activities because I am now able to work. Thank you so much, may God bless you abundantly’’.

MESSAGE OF DIRECTOR

We take this opportunity to thank all those who have helped us restore the dignity of women who have survived obstetric fistulas. 

We especially thank the Fistula Foundation for the financial support for obstetric fistula survivors, DAK International Network (DIN) for the care of women with pelvic organ prolapse, FIGO and Direct Relief, and PNSR for their collaboration. Our gratitude also goes to all the staff at our triage centers, Lwanzo Hospital Center in Beni and Nengapeta in Kirumba, for facilitating patient care.
